Paul Bruce and Edinburgh Short Film Festival

I have been a film-maker since the early 1990s, training and working with various film and media organisations in Edinburgh including Lothian Video Users Group, Video Access Centre, Leith Unemployed Media Group, Mediabase and others.

I was awarded funding in the early 1990s to make a film for Video Access Centre and the LUMG and have since made a dozen short films which have screened at festivals throughout the UK and around the world, have screened on satellite and cable TV and via on-line distribution networks.

I am also the festival director for the Edinburgh Short Film Festival, a festival which has grown out of the Leith Short Film Festival which ran from 2005 -2010. The festival focusses in screening the best in contemporary UK & International short films alongside the best Edinburgh made productions. We also aim to provide networking and social events to connect film-makers and artists.
In 2012 the Edinburgh Short Film Festival screened 69 short films, 15 Edinburgh produced shorts and 25 Scottish-made films alongside films from India, Columbia, Palestine (Gaza), Italy, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Australia and Spain. We have had over 300 attendees at our 7 screening sessions and hope to host a ‘Best Of’ film event over the Hogmanay period.

I am also interested in creating and making films and in working with other bodies to distribute short films from Scotland and Edinburgh more widely. I have been managing a production company Oaty Hill Productions under which we have produced several short films.
