This is a section of the research which I have been doing examining the bureaucratic processes, and the people who action them, in the social systems that govern the lives of many people in contemporary Britain. It is a sociological investigation prompted by the harms witnessed by institutional activity on the financially least advantaged populations.
This is a next part of a longitudinal action research project studying the effects of forms of managerialism introduced into the lives of people such as the Outcomes Star, what has become a proprietary instrument used to provision organisational funding often to support vulnerable people. This is the continuation of an action research project which started out as an analysis of the Outcomes Star which was being used to measure developments in the lives of people for support workers to report to funders. The analyses were initiated as the experience produced distress and discomfort at the distortions they produced in the support/need juncture.
