Due to the rapid industrialisation and urbanisation in Britain, and in particular Manchester, there was a need for the support structure given by Ragged Schools. Marc Bloch was born at Lyon on July 6th 1886 and died 1944. He was educated at the Ecole Normale Superieure where he specialized in history and geography. He later taught these subjects at the Lycees of Montpellier and Agen. In 1919 he was appointed Professor of Medieval History at the University of Strasbourg until 1937 when he became Professor of Economic History at the University of Paris. His early carrier was interrupted by service in the French Army in World War I. Read more…

In a simplified form, the stock exchange is a type of market place where entrepreneurs meet with investors to try and get finance to start their business. The entrepreneur gives some of the equity (shares) in the company to the investor who takes on the risk.
