Plain and simple, Ragged University events are about individuals sharing their passion and skills with other individuals, not about individuals promoting a group or organisation…who else you connect with is inherent in your story.

In an attempt to make a holistic project model, I have been talking with as many economic minds as possible – alongside educationalists, sociologists and artists; as well as people from different communities. The plan is to try and underpin local economic regeneration so that there are tangible benefits which come of the activities. Hence starting the odyssey of learning economics so this is approached in a level headed and pragmatic way. If you go down to the pub today you’re in for a big surprise. No, I’m not talking about getting a kicking from the local thugs who claim the bar as their patch. Instead, imagine the scenario: you walk into a Glaswegian bar and lay eyes upon a group of students inside. No surprise there you might think.
The Ragged project is a developing a holistic social model that aims to help underpin local economies and foster economic regeneration in its activities. Where it started ?…. The whole thing crystalised around a table in Stoke Newington in London. I had been asked to help out the Street Performers Community Organisation with sorting out their office. James Tonner and Roy Gurvitz had been thinking about doing a festival in Hackney Marshes.
The question was asked what would be a good thing to do which was interesting, fun and brought people together. Around that table three other friends agreed on the idea and after some background work, I left to set it up in Glasgow whilst Jes Haley, Grant Crozier, and Will Bentinck did the first events at the Palatine Bar in Dalston. Having just gone through ten days of social media and web training in London, it is now a pleasure to announce the coming of the new website. When Scott Porter (Digital Engine) fell ill with Myeloid Leukemia, we were presented with some problems for the Ragged project. One, how can we return all the support and goodwill that Scott has gifted to keep the Ragged virtual presence up-to-date and reaching people.
