Video: Memoirs Of A Poacher by Bob Redwater

This is a video of Bob Redwater talking about his life as a poacher.  All his life he has observed and taken part in the cycle of nature by hunting responsibly – albeit without a license.  Here he shares some of his memories with the wider world with recollections, some of which are in his book and some of which are not.

Urban Fox is a frank and humorous memoir that shares with us a lifetime of adventures and tells of one man’s love of the countryside. Beautifully illustrated with evocative wood engravings, Urban Fox will delight the reader with its tales of a hidden world. It celebrates a way of life that few will believe possible, that of the urban poacher.

The hunting, be it with dogs, ferrets, boomerangs or longbows, takes place within the city limits of Edinburgh. The enemy of the city poacher is not the gamekeeper but the occasional red-faced pre-breakfast jogger gasping his way through woods, scattering the wildlife.

Spanning almost forty years of hunting, Urban Fox begins with an enthusiastic young boy with a passion for egg collecting and bird watching and ends with a ‘respectable’ old man looking back on his hunter’s life. These are memoirs tinged with a little guilt but few regrets.
